First Person, Singularly, Presently Confusing.

June 24th. Day 24. Thursday.

I am struggling grammatically. I am obviously telling the story of our journey in first person, but I have to go back and forth in the time frame, depending on whether I'm blogging about today or two days ago. It gets taxing. I do try, however, to add dates so I can keep everyone in the loop. And now, for example, I'm writing under the day of June 24th, as if it were June 24th, but it's really the 26th. Are you confused yet? Haha.

Anyway, today (Thursday) was another drive day. We passed on breakfast, and got an early start up the road around 10am. It was still in the low 60s and overcast when we pulled out of Newport.

Our first stop was the Tillamook Creamery....I can say it was delightful and terrifying at the same time. Lol. The ice cream is always perfection, and the visitor center is really well done, focusing of course on prying that $20, $50, $100 bill out of your pocket. They got $17 from me, plus another $10 for ice cream. I bought a shot glass (we are buying one in every state) and a Xmas ornament (also buying one in every state). The terrifying part is not the retail experience, which is mandatory in any venue that is intentionally set up to dump you off in the gift shop. No...the terrifying part is all the PEOPLING you have to do to get to the finish line. Ugh-a-mundo. They are everywhere, like little ants, running in circles and annoying me. I'm a people person, don't get me wrong, but large crowds of strangers generally annoy me. We found a line for ice cream that the rest of the humanoids hadn't discovered, so and ate our ices cream on the gorgeous lawn, and hauled ass out of there.

The second stop was Cannon Beach, and although we pulled off and drove through the adorable town, we were unable to find parking for our little rig. We therefore did not get to see Haystack Rock, made famous in the 80's blockbuster, Goonies. Boo!!! This is a photo of it...

Nevermind. Something to put on the list for my next visit.

Here are some photos I took on the drive from Newport to Hoquiam, Washington...

We arrived in Hoquiam around 3:30, set up camp, and then set off to find a food market of some sort. We ended up at Swanson's Foods, where we grabbed some basics.

My buddy Mike, who I met when I was living in Tampa, lives in Hoquiam, thus the reason for our destination/stop. Mike announced that he had caught and was cooking crabs for dinner, as well as a rack of ribs, so I also grabbed a bunch of side salads for the feast. And It was a feast...

After dinner, we went for a walk down this awesome trail in the RV park. Off to the right, as we went down the main path, there was a sign that said Forest Loop Trail. It was fantastic!!! Like a secret garden, waiting for someone to stumble upon it...

After our walk through the forest, we sat down to watch the su disappear between the trees. Somehow, I managed to eat 1.5 pounds of yummy cherries. Found them here for $4.99/pound, compared to $8.99/pound in California.
