Day 10 - June 10th - 10 down, 263 to go. š. I promise not to do thay EVERY day.
We spent the 9th on the road to California, nursing ourselves a bit in the recovery process. I love Las Vegas, but Las Vegas doesn't necessarily love me. Haha. Having said that, we had a freaking blast. The drive west was far from exciting, but the desert is still beautiful in some way. Lots of rough terrain, a handful of Joshua Trees, and semi truck after semi truck that we left in the dust. Beau doesn't like to drive slowly. Not at all.
Here's a shot of our rig at the River Run RV Park. We got a prime spot at the end of the row with lots of trees and a big grassy area for the dogs.

Beau actually grew up in Bakersfield, which is the reason for our visit. It's probably not a vacation destination, lol, but as I'm discovering, there are some interesting things to see and learn about here.
I knew, for example, that there was a big country music presence here, but I didn't know that The Bakersfield Sound is actually a sub-genre of country music. Pretty cool. Buck Owens and Merle Haggard climbed to stardom in the 1950's here, along with lots of others. It was the first type of country music that was influenced by rock-n-roll. Distinguisheded by the steel twang of the electric guitar and powerful lyrics, the Sound's influence on country music is still widely felt.
Beau and I love country music, so it seems like a good idea to spend some time tomorrow sightseeing. We will head to the Crystal Palace, maybe check out Buck Owens' house, etc..
